West Midlands Police have confirmed that three men from Birmingham were arrested last night on suspicion of possessing articles and documents with intent to use them for terrorist purposes overseas.
The three men were detained at Heathrow Airport after arriving on a flight from Oman. Two of men are aged 33 and 39, and are from the Small Heath area of Birmingham whilst the third, aged 33, is from Alum Rock.
The arrests were made by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit in a pre-planned and intelligence-led operation. West Midlands police said the arrests were not made in response to any immediate threat to public safety.
