Roads in central Athens were temporarily closed on Tuesday lunchtime after a man claiming to be armed with explosives threatened to blow himself up close to the Prime Minister's office.

Eye-witnesses reported that the man, thought to be in his 40s, was wearing a suit, and that wires were visible.

A specialist negotiator attended the scene, however the man shortly gave himself up and was arrested.
