Emma West faces court today for racist rant

At her court hearing today, a judge told Ms West that she is to be remanded in custody for 4 weeks. This decision was made 'for her own safety'

A court case has been scheduled for the 3rd of January.

On announcement of the decision, suspected English Defence League (EDL) members shouted; "We love you Em, you don't serve this country" before storming out. 8 police officers waited outside the courtroom.

As things stand, Ms West's plea is 'not indicated'.

Upon the video being shown in court, Emma West was seen crying with her head in her hands.

Earlier today however, a man was given a fine for using offensive language.

Emma West - the lady at the centre of the #mytramexperience and #racisttrainlady incident (which became a worldwide trend on Twitter), will face a judge today at Croydon Magistrates Court.

Ms West was filmed being racially abusive and aggressive to fellow commuters on a tram in south London. After the video was uploaded onto YouTube and picked up by news outlets like Blottr and social media sites like Twitter, Ms West was eventually arrested by British Transport Police.
