Greek SYRIZA MPs attacked by riot police during demo

MPs of the Greek 'Coalition of the Radical Left - Unitary Social Front', better known as SYRIZA, were attacked on Thursday morning while demonstrating outside the office of the Minister of Finance in Athens.

It is thought that two SYRIZA MPs were involved. Kostas Mparkas and Vaggelis Diamantopoulos were allegedly beaten and kicked by the police.

According to local media: 'Protesters were calling the 24-hour strike on 20 February, while stressing that "The only answer to all those who in the name of 'development', are preparing to implement new measures impoverishment of workers and youth are collective and unyielding struggle to overthrow the government and understandings.'

Images show riot police wearing helmets charging the demonstrators, and using water hoses to disperse them. Greek police have reportedly ordered an inquiry into the incident.
