Hundreds of students, staff and supporters gathered outside the Home Office on Marsham Street to protest the decision of the Home Office to revoke the London Metropolitan University's license to teach international students, consequently putting their stay in the UK in jeopardy.

Following the decision students are being forced to search for a place at a different university, and will otherwise face the termination of their degrees and may be deported.

Demonstrators handed a petition to the Home Office calling for an amnesty to allow current students to complete their studies.

After the rally and speeches outside the Home Office the group marched towards Westminster before being temporarily stopped by police. They then made their way to Downing Street where they chanted "UKBA - deportations go away", and held placards reading 'Education not Deportation'.

More to follow.
