NDTV have reported that a man in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh has strangled his wife following an argument in which he blamed her for not producing a son, despite the couple having five daughters together.
Police have failed to find the husband following the murder.
Relatives have said that the man has been abusive for years, the girls aged between three and thirteen are currently staying with their maternal uncle.
The incident is the latest in a pattern all too common in many parts of India, in which disappointment that a son is not produced has lead to foeticide, female infanticide and murder.
