  • comments

Marthan Karua, candidate for the next presidential Kenyan election, has been using Twitter to raise money for her campaign.

Karua, who is one of the leading candidates, launched a Twitter campaign asking her supporters to send money to fund her presidential campaign.

On this occasion the Twitter hashtag #SimamaNaMamaNaMia, which literally translates to “support mum with Ksh 100" was created. 100 Kenyan Shilling is the equivalent of £0,7 ($1,2).

Karua is the first presidential candidate to use social media to raise funds.

General elections will be held in Kenya on 4 March 2013, electing the President, Senators, County Governors, Members of Parliament, Civic Wards and Women County Representatives. This year's elections will be the first elections held under the new constitution, which was passed during the 2010 referendum.
