1 arrested, 12 dead, 50 injured at mass shootings at Batman Premiere in Denver, Colorado

Aurora Police have confirmed that 12 people have died, and 50 others injured after a lone gunman went on a shooting rampage at the Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Center.

Explosions were heard inside the cinema which eyewitness say was tear gas which went off after the gunshots. Cinema goers had thought that the gunshots were part of the film until they saw bullets flying around. The gunshots were heard in a theatre room next to the main one where the incident took place.

The youngest victim is a three month old baby. Local media reported that two gunmen may have been involved in the rampage however one person is in custody. Police confirmed that they were not aware of a second shooter. Witnesses said the gunman was wearing body armour - SWAT style - and gas mask. He used some kind of tear gas in the attack before spraying the room methodically with bullets. Police apprehended him outside the cinema where he was found with a rifle and a handgun. He insinuated to police that he had explosives at a residential apartment nearby and in the cinema car park. Police have cordoned off the car park and the apartment whilst they investigate. He is thought to be 24-years-old. There are over 100 FBI agents at the scene.

Nicole Williams, with Swedish Medical Center, told local news reporters that the hospital was alerted to a mass casualty incident at 1:15 a.m.
