Moscow City Court upholds detention of Pussy Riot protesters

Moscow City Court has this afternoon (Monday) upheld the detention of at least one of the members of punk protest collective 'Pussy Riot'.

Appearing at the court to appeal their continued imprisonment the female protesters were expecting a positive outcome after suggestions made yesterday by their lawyer. He said that although he has no absolute guarantee that the accused will be released, the chances of a favorable outcome of the case are very high.

However, contrary to his optimism all three women will remain in custody until at least July 24.

As the women appeared inside, dozens of supporters gathered outside the court, with the hope that they may be released.

The detention of the women has acheived worldwide coverage, and the courts decision today is likely to further raise concerns.
