The Crown Prosecution Service are once again raising eyebrows by attempting to outlaw the possession of some pornographic images.
During the so-called 'Porn trial', taking place today (Monday), the CPS will attempt to persuade a jury that images of fisting should be classified as “extreme pornography”, and that the defendant accused of possession of such images should face up to three years in prison, and be added to the sex offenders register.
Defendant, Simon Walsh, has been charged with being in possession of extreme pornographic images under section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008. The case rests on whether the jury decide that the act of fisting is “likely to result in serious injury to a person’s anus”, and is therefore 'extreme'.
As with a similar trial earlier this year, when a man was unanimously acquitted of publishing fisting DVDs under the Obscene Publications Act 1959 (OPA), the public have expressed outrage that the CPS are taking action against a person for viewing images of consensual sexual acts, however 'extreme':
