Protests in Mumbai have spiralled out of control as people have begun to torch vehicles, damage buses and stone pelt police officers. Two people have been reported dead as hundreds of protesters gathered at the Azad Maidan Ground in the south of the city.

Police were forced to open fire in the air and resort to lathi-charging the mob, reports say.
