Reports: Tibetan self-immolates protesting Chinese rule, bringing total to 99

Tibetan activists say another Tibetan man has self-immolated in protest against Chinese rule. In 2013 so far there have been two immolations, the most recent on Friday.

Since 2009 there have been 99 immolations reported by Tibetan authorities and rights activists.

A Tibetan human rights organisation said that the Tibetan man set himself on fire on Tuesday in the Bora region of Labrang, eastern Tibet and was named locally as Kunchok Kyab, 23. He is said to have self-immolated near the Bora Monastery at around 12 pm (local time).

A heavy security has been deployed at the area following the self-immolation. Scores of monks from Bora monastery has also been detained by Chinese security officials.

On Friday, another Tibetan self-immolated in front of Chinese police whilst on Jan 12th, there was another immolation in the Amchok region, captured on video (see above).
