Women in Colombo, Sri Lanka, have gathered to join international demonstrations taking place on Thursday calling for greater protection for women's rights.
Demonstratins are taking place all over the women, ranging from thousands protesting in some major cities, to just a couple of dozen in others. All are urging for respect of women, and women's rights.
In its 15th year, organisers say that they are inviting one billion women to "demand an end to this violence". "ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders" the organisers website said.
