VIDEO: Riot police use tear gas to disperse anti-austerity protesters in Athens

A video has emerged online showing police using tear gas to disperse protesters outside the Greek parliament building in Syntagma Square, central Athens.

On Wednesday tens of thousands of people poured into the capital to demonstrate against the latest austerity measures, soon to be introduced.

Although many thousands demonstrated peacefully, clashes between protesters and police did take place. Eyewitnesses at the scene reported Molotov cocktails thrown at police, to which they responded with tear gas.

The video shows protesters running from the gas, away from the parliament building. Coughing can clearly be heard, as well as people covering their mouths.
