The week in pictures: 15th September 2012

Images 1 and 2: North Carolina taxi driver Charles Hawkesworth was attacked by US marine John Adam Kinosh over a dispute on a journey home. Hawkesworth received severe facial injuries as a result of the assault. 

Image 3: This week saw the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States. This image was taken from a satellite over Manhattan, showing thick plumes of smoke rising from the fires raging in the rubble of the World Trade Centre.

Image 4: Apple released the iPhone 5 on the 12th of September, to much fanfare and hype. What changed? Thinner, longer...but not much else.

Image 5: The internet was immediately buzzing with suggestions as to where Apple might end up with their iPhone improvements. Here's the 'iPhone 10'.

Image 6: A story from the Independet newspaper in 1993 paints Osama Bin Laden in a different light to how he would go on to be perceived by much of the world.

Image 7: Protests across the Muslim world at an anti-Muslim video produced in the US reaches London, UK. US and Israeli flags were burnt in protests outside the US embassy.

Image 8: 1.5 million people marched on Barcelona this week demanding independence for the north-eastern region of Catalonia. They argue independence would bring economic benefits for the area.

Image 9: A bus and a white van had a very near miss with a sushi shop in Regent St, London on Friday 14th.
