More Bristol libraries offering council services

Three more Bristol libraries will be offering advice and information about council services from next month, following the launch of this type of service in Robinson House and Fishponds Library.

The Bristol City Council has announced plans to expand the service to libraries in Knowle, Filwood and Bedminster. Self-service facilities for Customer Service Point customers will also be available.

The Knowle Library surgeries will start on Tuesday, February 7, running two days a week, every Tuesday and Thursday. Filwood Library will run its surgeries every Wednesday, starting on Wednesday, February 8. And Bedminster Library’s surgeries will commence from February 27, running two days a week, every Monday and Friday.

Councillor Gary Hopkins, cabinet member for targeted improvements, said:

“Many people use both their local library and our Customer Service Points, so it’s a practical step to offer access to council services in one place. These surgery sessions will not only make it easier for members of the general public to contact the council but will also allow the council to respond more efficiently and effectively to customer inquiries. This initiative of Bristol Libraries and Customer Services working together is part of a ongoing plan of city-wide developments and improvements, focusing on customer needs and matching services to resources.”

Councillor Simon Cook, Bristol’s deputy leader and executive member for culture, added:

“The co-location of Robinson House and Fishponds Library has proved popular with local people. The ground floor has been refurbished and a brand new customer facility with Customer Service Points and a library with self-service have been designed with the customer in mind. The opening days have been busy and exciting. We are now planning a formal launch of both services in early March.”
