Jade Ruck, a 23 year old mother, yesterday admitted to the killing her 11-month-old daughter Harley Ruck who was found dead with multiple stab wounds just days before her first birthday.

Ruck, was arrested and detained on suspicion of the murder, but was later admitted to the psychiatric unit Caswell Clinic in Bridgend for assessment.

Yesterday, Ruck appeared before Nicholas Cooke QC, the Recorder of Cardiff, and denied murder charges against her but admitted manslaughter. According to her barrister, Peter Murphy QC, the plea was entered on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

The inquest heard that there were also signs of strangulation and suffocation at the time the body was found. The baby was discovered with multiple stab wounds at a flat in in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, and despite attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead on 20 November 2010.
