The Gruaniad has kicked off an almighty row this morning by portraying "Bibi" Netanyahu of Israel as a master puppeteer in control of both William Hague and our beloved “Middle East Peace Envoy”, St Tone of Blair. Various right wing commentators are in uproar that award winning cartoonist Steve Bell should be perpetuating the stereotype that Zionists in some way control the West and are able to manipulate politicians to suit their own ends.
I hold no truck with murderous terrorists of any persuasion but we do have to accept that Israel DOES punch vastly above its own weight in terms of influence and power. It is financed by a race of entrepreneurs and academics who have spread throughout the world, creating wealth and knowledge. However, any State founded on a religion is always going to appeal to followers of that religion, regardless of the Politics or aspirations of the individual. Religion is the great “collective” and to question the motives or methods is always to question God directly. We see the heinous blasphemy laws and Sharia in that other religious State, Pakistan and rightly declare them to be nothing more than a people trapped in a medieval hell, unable to throw off the shackles of a time when Clerics ruled with an iron fist – yet Israel, with similar laws and beliefs remains untouchable and sacred. The sins of the all-powerful Zionist State excused, sponsored and ignored in the name of “diversity” and “inclusion” by people too scared of their own shadows to acknowledge the great wrongs perpetrated in the name of that religion.
Israel will undergo a paradigm shift in the next century as Arab Israelis continue to outbreed even the multitude of Soviet immigrants who poured in and are now heading off again to find peace and retirement elsewhere and the growing number of fundamental Haredi hardline settlers who will not be satisfied until women are chained in cellars with shaved heads and all life consists of 16 hour Talmud readings every day.
As the US develops shale gas and becomes self sufficient in energy, the need for a satellite state in the middle east will decline. NATO members already exist in the region (Turkey) and certainly the USSR is better placed to contain Islamic fuckwittery than a few Neocons in Washington. The Arab spring has upset the apple cart that saw billions in bribes handed to local Arab dictators to remain quiet and subservient. Pretty soon Israel is going to have to decide if it is to become a secular, multi faith modern functioning society like Lebanon or build the walls and ammunition dumps even higher and become an isloated museum piece of religious fundamentalism - albeit nuclear armed. Simply bombing the Palestinians every time you want to get elected or object to your man in Washington not being elected is doing no one but arms dealers and those who finance wars any favours.
