A workshop on euthanasia went ahead yesterday despite claims claims by the Catholic Church that it could be breaking the law.
Dr Philip Nitschke, known as Australia's Dr Death, told an audience at St Mark's Unitarian Church about “reliable DIY end of life strategies that do not require travel to Switzerland”.
Peter Kearney, the spokesman for the Catholic Church in Scotland, had urged police to investigate the workshop.
However, Exit International, which organised the event, said the police had not been in touch.
The Rev Maud Robinson, the minister at St Mark's, said that the church had checked with the police and that “there was nothing illegal about it and it is going ahead as planned”.
