Olympic rings plan meets mixed reaction

[title]

Giant Olympic rings may be build on Edinburgh Castle if controversial plans go ahead.

The organising committee for the London 2012 Olympics want to place the rings on the castle for four months to advertise the event. They would then be replaced with the logo of the Paralympic games.

The plans have drawn a mixed reaction.

Edinburgh MSP Marco Biagi said: “It is galling to be asked to advertise an event that will draw tourists and visitors to a different city.”

Lothians MSP Margo McDonald agreed, saying: “Do you think London would put up a big sign saying the Commonwealth Games is being held in Glasgow? I don't think so.”

However, a spokesman for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport said: “It is short-sighted and disappointing that some people cannot recognise the benefits of having the Olympic rings in Edinburgh.”
