Rapist evades justice for 1 year after Eastenders plot prevented victim from reporting assault

A man is facing jail after his eleven year old victim plucked up the courage to report a sexual assault one year after the incident. The case was concluded at the Old Bailey today (Tues), with the man's sentence to be announced shortly after.

Junior Hall, 41, from Battersea South London raped the young girl after she called him 'gay'. While carrying out the assault Hall is said to have told her: 'I'm not gay, I like this too much'. He is then said to have tried to bribe her with a £20 note.

The victim, who cannot be named, had previously been reluctant to go to the police with the crime because of a similar Eastenders storyline. The victim allegedly tried to tell her mother but felt that she was not believed because the case was too similar to a plot from the popular soap opera.

Prosecutor Mark Gadsden previously explained that although:

'At the time she felt the matter should be reported to police...She said she was influenced by a storyline in the programme Eastenders and didn't want to go through a court case as she didn't get any support.'
