Singh is King: 101-year-old Fauja Singh says tomorrow will be his last marathon

The world's oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh, has said that tomorrow's London marathon will be his last.

The 101-year-old from Ilford first began running marathons at the age of 89 and has since run a total of eight marathons including the London and New York races. It was at the 2003 Toronto Marathon that Singh became the world record holder for the oldest marathon runner, and it is this race that has stood out especially for the great-grandfather.

His trainer Harmander Singh said: "I believe it's probably best that this is the last. I don't think he has anything else to prove." Fauja Singh will not be putting his tracksuit away just yet though, and intends to carry on running shorter races.
