A fifth death has been attributed to the Stepping Hill saline contamination scandal.
Linda McDonagh, aged 60, was admitted to Stepping Hill hospital with a serious underlying health condition. She is one of 21 people that police suspect were intentionally poisoned by adding glucose to their saline drips over summer of last year.
The current major suspect is male nurse Victorino Chua who is released on bail until late April. The inquest into Mrs. Donagh’s death will not go ahead until the investigation, one of the most expensive in Greater Manchester police’s history, is concluded.
Stepping Hill hospital has had to increase security since the events of last summer, although they have reduced the number of onsite security guards recently. It is now practically impossible for the same incidents to happen again as there are even more regulations to adhere to when prescribing and administering drugs. Of course for many, this begs the question why weren’t these additional checks in use in the first place.
