A Bolton couple have been arrested on suspicion of murder after their six-month child died in a Liverpool hospital on Friday.
Paramedics, called to the family home on Thursday night, rushed the baby to Royal Bolton hospital. Soon transferred to a specialist ward at Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool the baby died of its injuries.
Police began questioning the parents (aged 22 and 24) this week, to establish how the six-month old had sustained such fatal injuries. A Home Office post-mortem was carried out on Monday (9th January) however the final post-mortem results have not yet been returned so it is not known what the cause o death was. Currently the couple are under suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Warren said “We are in the very early stages of this investigation but I want to reassure all those close to the baby and the local community that we are doing everything we can to establish the full circumstances leading up to and surrounding his death.”
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to this investigation.
