Man dies following M62 crash

Greater Manchester Police say a man has died after a collision in the M62 motorway.

On Wednesday police were called to junction 20 of the M62 motorway westbound, where officers found that five cars and a large goods vehicle had been involved in a collision. Ashfaq Ahmed, a 36-year-old from the Bradford area, was trapped inside a Proton Persona and had suffered serious injuries.

Ashfaq was treated by paramedics from an air ambulance, but was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. GMP say that a 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been taken into police custody for questioning.

A 27-year-old man from one of the other vehicles was also taken to hospital for treatment, but police say his injuries are not life threatening and he has now been discharged.

Police Constable Paul Joynson from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and our sympathies are with the family who are receiving ongoing support from a trained officer.
