Sixth child dies after Derby house fire

A sixth child has died following a house fire in Derby that killed five other children from the same family in the early hours of Friday morning.

Duwayne Philpott, 13, sustained severe injuries from the fire at his home on Victory Avenue, in Allenton, Derby. Derbyshire Police have confirmed that this morning his parents gave permission for his life support machine to be turned off.

Derbyshire Police are treating the fire as suspicious. Assistant chief constable of Derbyshire constabulary, Steve Cotterill, said that the investigation was at an early stage, and that his officers had not yet had a chance to talk to the Philpotts properly because of Duwayne's condition.

It was not expected that Duwayne would survive his injuries that also killed Jade, 10, John, nine, Jack, seven, Jessie, six, and Jayden, five.

The 28-year-old woman and 38-year-old man, both from Derby, who were arrested in connection with the incident were released without charge on Saturday. The investigation continues.
