Suspicious death of baby in Birmingham investigated by police

Today West Midlands Police will be at the location of what is being treated as the suspicious death of a baby boy one week ago. It is hoped that anyone who has information will be encouraged to step forward.

The incident took place, at the junction of Green Lane and Talfourd Street, in Small Heath. The child, a 10-month-old boy from Birmingham, suffered serious head injuries after allegedly falling from a moving vehicle, and died on Tuesday 8 May at 7.30pm in hospital. Officers investigating the incident, together with local neighbourhood officers, will be at the location between 11.30am and 2pm.

Detective Sergeant Simon Kirman, from the Public Protection Unit at Birmingham North Police, said:

"The incident happened last Friday 4 May at around midday, when the 10-month-old child is believed to have fallen from a moving Red Toyota Yaris, registration number W872 ONP, and sustained fatal injuries..The exact circumstances surrounding how the child became injured are currently being investigated and a post mortem will be taking place."

Three women have been arrested in connection with the death, but have since been released on bail.
