Body
The courage of a passer-by was yesterday highly commended as Steve Bayliss, who prevented a woman from being set on fire, received the National Award for Bravery by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA). Steve Bayliss was passing by a house in Wolverhampton when he heard the screams of a woman issuing from it. The woman then came out onto the street where she was allegedly being beaten by a man intent on killing her. At this point Bayliss intervened when he realised from the smell that the woman had been doused in petrol. He the proceeded to ply the lighter out of the hand of the attacker which saved the woman from burning to death. The incident occurred in 2010 and Steve Bayliss was given his well deserved award at a West Midlands Police event. It takes a man in a million to intervene in an attack, and even more so when there is the threat of being set on fire. Steve Bayliss, 51, is clearly an asset to the West Midlands community and thoroughly deserves the award he has been given.
