Last week, the government launched a new police website which told you what crime had been committed on YOUR street. After crashing on it's launch day, the site is back up and running. The first of it's kind the website tells you how many: burglaries, robberies, violent crimes, vehicle crimes, anti-social behaviour crimes and other crimes have been committed right on your doorstep. The anti-social behaviour figures show that the West Midlands d the third worst place in the country with nearly eight and a half thousand incidents reported in December. To see what the crime rates are like in your area visit www.police.uk I thought i'd test the site out and see how bad the crime is in my area. I put my postcode into the search and as I live in Kingstanding, I has a feeling anti-social behaviour crimes would be pretty high. The results show I was right. there were 124 incidents of anti-social behaviour in December. I was shocked at the amount of burglaries that took place: at 37 that means there was at least one a day; a bit of a scary thought. I liked that when you enter your details; you get all the contact details fro your local station and also the contact for your area force; in which case mine's West Midland's Police. You also get to see their Twitter feed; once again showing how the forces are using social media to their advantage. Do I think the site really has a point? Well it shocks you into realising how much crime is taking pace and let's you know what's highest in your area. I suppose it's a good tool for if you're considering moving house but other than that I don't think it has much point.
