Sheffield residents evacuated for second time due to drug production chemicals

Residents of Ridghill Avenue in Sheffield have again been evacuated this morning after more chemicals were found to be used for the production of illegal drugs.

Fire engines, police and bomb disposal units are reportedly at the scene.

Yesterday afternoon the road was cordoned off as police disposed of the chemicals. A man in his 30s was arrested under suspicion of attempting to produce class A drugs. He remains in police custody.

South Yorkshire Police have said:

"Police officers have found more chemicals at an address on Ridgehill Avenue, Intake, Sheffield, following a detailed follow-up search of the property and have had to evacuate a number of neighbouring properties again.
The evacuation taking place this morning (Friday, 11 May) is a precautionary measure, as public safety is of the upmost concern to officers.
Emergency services expect to be at the property until this afternoon.
The area is safe and people can still go about their business as normal."

They have also reiterated that the incident is drug, and not terrorism related.
