A high police presence was reported on The Broadway/High Street in Bedford this morning following a suspected assault on a man.

Police were called to the scene just before 9am and are talking to witnesses. The 52-year-old victim was taken to Bedford Hospital where he continues to undergo treatment.

The road was closed as eyewitnesses reported a forensics team at an old garage on The Broadway.

Police have confirmed that the incident this morning involved a man being stabbed. They have also confirmed that a 46-year-old male has been arrested and is being questioned at Greyfriars Police Station in Bedford.

As of 5pm an area of The Broadway used for parking remained cordoned off and one lane of the road is closed to traffic.
