Tory councillor suspended for defending the EDL on Twitter

Bournemouth Conservative Councillor, Sue Anderson, has suspended herself from the Conservative Party after defending the English Defence League on Twitter on Saturday evening. Her comment that the EDL "sticks up for the English" caused outrage, and was criticised by hundreds of fellow Twitter users. Although Ms Anderson, who represents Moordown, has denied supporting the far-right extremist group she has referred herself to the Conservative's disciplinary procedures and standards board. In another incident Cllr Anderson tweeted an account jointly run by a woman of Asian descent, and said “If you don’t like it here go back to where you came from.” Many other tweets were deleted from the councillor's account yesterday, and her photograph was removed.
