In a joint research venture HOPE not Hate and the bloggers at 'EDL News' have revealed that the English Defence League's leader, Tommy Robinson is set to enter politics as the Deputy Leader of the British Freedom Party. Documents have been obtained containing the details of a meeting in Luton on Saturday 14 April, 2012, between the British Freedom Party Executive Committee, the leaders of the English Defence League and others which detail Tommy Robinson's inclusion into the party leadership. Attending the meeting were BFP's Chairman, Paul Weston, National Nomination Officer, George Whale, and Communications Officer, Lee Cooper. Tommy Robinson and his second in command Kevin Carroll represented the EDL along with Ann Marcini who is thought to have close ties with Alan Ayling (aka Alan Lake), an EDL financial backer. Although Robinson's appointment as Deputy Leader has not officially been passed by the party, the documents suggest that this is only a formality and will be unanimously passed. The alliance between the EDL and BFP was formed in November last year, the links are set to become stronger as Robinson joins the party leadership. The EDL planned to announce with merger themselves ahead of the Luton demonstration planned for Saturday 5 May. The revelation also calls into question the English Defence League's ongoing claim that they are not a racist organisation. The documents obtained by Hope not Hate and 'EDL News' contain the demands made by the EDL upon their joining with the BFP and are a clear contradiction of their repeated statements. Demands included:
These demands are conclusive evidence that the EDL is not only focused against 'extremist Islam' but on all Muslim people and practices. The far-right group has been the subject of increased media attention over the following week after several members were arrested under suspicion of incitement to racial hatred using the internet, this latest revelation is sure to spark further outrage at their policies, and their planned move towards organised politics.
