Three people have been killed in a head on collision between a lorry and a car in Seaton, County Durham.

The collision happened on the B1404 at about 12.20pm

All those who died were travelling in the car. A fourth person, one of the passengers in the vehicle has been taken by the Great North Air Ambulance to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The lorry came to rest on the green at Houghton golf course and its driver suffered minor injuries.

Durham Police said the road was likely to remain closed to traffic for several hours.
