Luke Pomersbach, an Australian cricket player for the Royal Challengers Bangalore team franchise in the Indian Premier League was arrested for allegedly molesting a American woman and allegedly beating up her boyfriend at five-star hotel, the Maurya Sheraton, in Delhi on Thursday night.
The incident reportedly happened after the Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Delhi Daredevils on Thursday evening. The RCB players were out celebrating the victory.
A case has been registered against the 27-year-old Australian player. He was presented at the Patiala House Court, where it was reported that he fainted and had to be taken out of the courtroom. Mr Pomersbach has been granted interim bail until tomorrow.
The woman, an American named as Zohal Hamid, has said he "tagged along" with her fiance and her back to their five-star hotel after a party and insisted on having drinks with them. She told the court that when they refused, the player tried to kiss her and punched her fiance several times. Her fiance was admitted to a local hospital with a bleeding ear. His injuries are not life-threatening.
"When I tried to turn around and go to my room, he grabbed my hand and tried to kiss me. My fiance said 'listen, she is not any girl like that. Just leave and go back to your room'," NDTV reported.
Mr Pomersback then allegedly punched her fiancé several times. "He got injured in his ears. He is not able to hear properly. He was bleeding," she said.
"I come here often to visit my friends and my fiancee.... I was here to see him. I was hanging out with him. He lives in Mumbai," she added.
The owner of the RCB team, Sidharth Mallya said on Twitter: "The girl who is accusing Luke is saying he hit her 'fiance'...what a load of f***ing s*it. She was all over me last night and asked for me bbm pin, so if he was her fiance she wasn't exactly behaving like a future wife".
His comments have shocked many commentators and the Twitterati in India are asking him to apologise for these 'insensitive' comments.
