Canadian police reveal identity of Luka Magnotta's victim in gory murder case

Police have named the victim of the Luka Magnotta murder case as Jun Lin 33, who was attending Concordia University in Montreal. CNN reported that before police released the name, a reader identified as lancelot16 who commented on a CNN story about Magnotta said he or she knew Lin.

"I'm a friend of the victim," the comment said. "He was an international student from China. They met just weeks ago, but were starting to go out. Not his boyfriend. They had a casual relationship."

CNN said the commenter said Lin had a party at his apartment and sent his cat to a friend's house, promising to pick it up the next day. He never did.

Magnotta who is thought to be a stripper and porn star, has been identified as the suspect in a case involving the discovery of a man's torso found stuffed in a suitcase in Montreal whose hand and foot were mailed to Ottawa. The foot was received by an employee of the Conservative Party of Canada, and the hand was on its way to the Liberal Party of Canada. Police have also obtained a video of the crime, which is thought to show the man in question stabbing the victim repeatedly on a bed.

Lin was last seen May 24th. Police believe the murder took place May 24th or May 25th. The Chinese consulate in Montreal said Lin was from the central Chinese city of Wuhan and believe Lin was killed and his body dismembered in a Montreal apartment.

Montreal Police are seeking the public's aid in locating the 29-year-old Magnotta, who may also go by the names Eric Clinton, Kirk Newman or Vladimir Romanov.

It has been reported that Magnotta may have fled the country already and is in Europe. They believe he flew to Paris and may be on his way to Eastern Europe.

Although Magnotta was not known to the police prior to the murder case, he has been the subject of an international social media campaign for the alleged torture and killing of kittens. He denies the allegations and has written about the 'hoax websites', and 'cyber stalking' which he believes he is a victim of. The campaign to find the perpetrator included The UK Sun along with PETA offering a $10,000 reward. At the time he was believed to be in the United States or Russia.

Police believe that the murder took place in Magnotta's flat, close to where the torso was found. Although an autopsy is yet to be carried out, it appears that the body parts found so far belong to the same body, and that Magnotta is the main suspect.
