Today marks just 98 days until the start of the London 2012 Paralympic Games which begin on Aug 29 and run until Sept 9. With 503 events in 21 different sports, they are sure to be as gripping a two weeks as the Olympics themselves.
The hype of the London Olympics, starting in 65 days, is now truly under way as the Olympic torch has begun is journey around the country. Although the Paralympic Games are not receiving as much attention, athletes are working just as hard in the build up to the late-summer events.
With less than 100 days to-go the Canadian Paralympic Committee is attending special events and launching a Facebook contest, looking for the ultimate "Super Fan" to win a trip to the games, and raising the profile of the Paralympics.
A simple internet search for the Paralympic Games reveals a minimal interest in comparison to the Games starting in July, and no obvious efforts to promote the second set of events. Commentators have urged organisers to use the Paralympics as an opportunity to address prejudices against disabled people. However, with so much attention being heaped onto the Olympic Games, London 2012 fever may have run out before the Paralympics even get a look in!
