A fake Youtube website which aimed at targeting Syrian activists has been set up online before being removed after Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), an international non-profit digital rights advocacy which works to expose government malfeasance, reported it.
The fake page was presented like the original Youtube page but it attacked users in two ways. It required users to enter their login to be able to leave comments and it also asks to update their Flash Player.
If a user were to update their Flash player, the computer would download malicious software connected to a server located in Syria which would install other malware on the computing device and would then a complete access to the computer used.
Since the beginning of the uprising Youtube has been largely used by Syrian activists to spread information and images showing the atrocities committed by the regime.
