According to activists at least 15 different marches took place across the Gulf kingdom on the occasion of May Day. Hundreds of Bahrainis protested in the streets of Bilad al-Qadeem, a village west of the capital of Manama. Protesters chanted anti-regime slogans and waved the Bahraini flag. Many women took part in the protest. Demonstrators also gathered in Boori, Bani Jamra, Abu Saiba, Nuwadrait, Sitra, Tubli, and Malkiya. According to prominent activist Maryam al-Khawaja several marches have been attacked by police forces: Many activists say police forces dispersed marches with tear gas including in Boori, a town in central Bahrain, in Bilad Qadeem, in Nuwadrait, Tubli and in Malkiya, a coastal town where a protester was injured. In the capital a protest was also disrupted by security forces who fired stun grenades and tear gas at demonstrators. Prominent activist Said Yousif reported a heavy security presence.
