While it may not come as a surprise that a significant number of website visits are to sites with pornographic material, a study conducted by Extreme Tech has they make up 30% of all global web traffic. The biggest porn site, Xvideos, gets over four billion page views and 350 million unique visits per month, with only Google and Facebook reaching anywhere near those figures. Extreme Tech gathered the information using Google’s DoubleClick Ad Planner, which tracks users across the web with a cookie. The study not only looked at the number of visits, but also at the time spent on the site which is what makes the billions of views even more significant. Viewers of a news website, or a blog for example spend on average three to six minutes on the website, whereas users of porn sites spend an average of 15 to 20 minutes on the site. More shocking pornography statistics:
- 12% of all websites have pornographic content (24,644,172 sites).
- Every second $3,075.64 is spent on porn, and 28,258 internet users are viewing porn.
- 25% of all search engine requests are pornography related (68 million a day).
- 35% of all internet downloads are pornographic.
- The average age a child first sees porn online is 11.
- In 2009 a Canadian researcher had to shelve a project because he could not find a single adult male who had not viewed pornography.
