US Citizens Huwaida Arraf and Radhika Sainath were arrested by Bahraini police in Manama on Saturday during a peaceful protest near the Standard Chartered Bank downtown.
Protesters marched into the city center on Saturday to protest peacefully ahead of the 1-year anniversary of the Arab Spring uprising in Bahrain.
The two women entered Bahrain on a tourist visa. They were ordered out of the country, said Bahrain’s Information Affairs Authority.
Huwaida Arraf and Radhika Sainath were accused of violating tourist visa rules by joining the protests “in order to report on them”.
